Our Sweet Back Story

John Dorman, Coney Island's beloved candy man, was forced out of his sweet seaside stand, Philip's Candy Shop, in 2001 to make way for construction of the Stillwell Avenue subway station. The institution opened on the boardwalk in 1916, moving to the storefront in the '30s. Dorman reopened in 2002 on Staten Island.

Philip's is sure to be your go-to source for all things sweet and tasty as John Dorman turns out chocolate, jelly, and caramel-dipped apples on a stick, cotton candy, delightful nut clusters, flavored popcorn, fudge varieties, chocolate-dipped grapes,figs, strawberries, and so much more.

Philips is best known for candied apples, buttery fudge, and pink candied popcorn, many of which were also created by his partner, Peggy Cohn.
